You may not be aware you are overwhelmed until later when you are left feeling embarrassed or ashamed of your actions.

It is important to recognize signs of being emotionally overwhelmed........... so you can stop them before they take over.

  1. Victimized: This is usually the first step. You are doing what is right following the rules and someone is being rude to you for no reason and no fault of your own.

  2. Rumination: You fixate and focus on the negative experience. You play it over and over in your head like a broken record.

  3. Defend: You then do something to defend yourself. This is the wrong move as it usually backfires and you are left feeling angry and frustrated.

If you can identify these steps, you can begin to find ways to manage negative thoughts and emotions.

Which will allow you to catch yourself before having an emotional response rather than a calm assertive one.
