When you are able to be fully present and communicate how another is feeling it will allow the other person to feel heard. Which results in a person feeling connected and not isolated or lonely.
Empathic responses occur at 4 different levels
Echo: This step is simply to repeat key parts of what the other person has said.
Paraphrase: This step is to summarize in your own words what another person has said.
Reflection of feelings: This step involves understanding a person's emotions/feelings and stating them to encourage and support them.
Internal cause and effect: This step involves asking about internal experiences that might be causing a person's feelings.
When you practice empathic responses the goal is not to fix other people's problems. The goal is to improve your connection with others. You will be able to develop healthy authentic relationships that are positive, supportive, and validating of others.
