Your mind and body will do anything to feel calm again. Once the attack ends you may be left feeling regret and embarrassment. You may be scared and have trouble understanding why you did what you did.

It can be a very frightening experience anxiety attack.

But there are things you can do to help get through an anxiety attack.

First, it is important to know that a part of you has been triggered that does not feel safe and feels unable to handle what is going on. This is usually because a part of you has triggered a past, unresolved trauma. An anxiety attack is your body trying to protect you by going into survival mode.

Second, try to stay as present as possible. It can help lessen the fear. Allow your true self to ask why you are feeling unsafe and listen to the memories that arise. This will help you understand your triggers and feel more compassion toward yourself.

Third, Focus on your breath. Allow yourself to imagine being in a peaceful place in nature. Take your scared part there and offer it comfort. Engage in positive self-talk. Tell yourself that you are safe, that you can handle this, and that you are not alone
